ThermaGon Flame-Retardant Compounds

Non-halogenated, Flame-Retardant Polyolefin Wire and Cable Jacketing and Insulation Compounds

ThermaGon compounds are non-halogenated, flame-retardant, low smoke, low corrosive and low toxicity compounds designed for use as wire and cable jacketing and insulation.  Each compound is formulated to have an excellent balance of physical properties, flame-retardant properties and processibility.  Standard color concentrates compounded from EVA or PE base resins may be used to color the natural compounds.

Thermoplastic Compounds

The ThermaGon 6000 and 9000 series compounds are designed to pass the UL 1581, IEEE-383 and IEC 60332-3 Vertical Tray Cable Flame Tests for general purpose cable constructions.  When used as insulation or jacketing in most cable constructions, the compounds will pass the UL 1277 Electrical Power and Control Cables Test, the UL 1655 Standard for Community-Antenna Television Cables and the UL 1666 Riser Cable Flame Test.  ThermaGon 6000 and 9000 series compounds also are designed to pass VDE 0207 Part 24 type HM2, BS 7655 Types LTS 1 and LTS 3, BS 7211 and CONSTRUCT 04/652 Draft proposed by the European Construction Products Directive.  Typical applications include insulation or jacketing for communication cables and industrial cables rated at 75º C, 90º C and 105º C.

General Features

  • Non-halogenated
  • Low smoke, low corrosivity, low toxicity
  • Excellent processibility
  • Excellent flexibility
  • Good resistance to heat aging
  • Several compounds stabilized to UV light
  • Good resistance to fluids
  • Colorable

ThermaGon 6000 series compounds are designed for outstanding processibility and can be processed up to 220° C for fast extrusion rates.  The 600 series compounds can be run on wire lines using standard polyolefin extrusion equipment without the need for low shear, low compression screws.

ThermaGon 9000 series compounds demonstrate good processibility, physical properties and flame-retardant properties.  The 9000 series compounds perform well on wire lines using low shear, low compression screws.  ThermaGon 9000 series compounds are outstanding, cost-effective thermoplastic compounds for a wide variety of cable applications.

Thermoset Compounds

ThermaGon EXL 0145 is a chemically crosslinkable, colorable polyolefin compound designed for 125º C applications.  EXL 0145 can be extruded using conventional extrusion lines and then crosslinked with a CV tube.  EXL 0145 is formulated to meet the requirements of SAE J1128 automotive primary insulation and UL 125º C appliance wire.

ThermaGon EBR 0146 is a radiation curable compound also designed for 125º C applications, including SAE J1128 automotive primary insulation UL 125º C appliance wire insulation.

ThermaGon EXL 0500 is a chemically crosslinkable, colorable polyolefin compound designed for demanding industrial jacketing or insulation applications where higher flame-retardant properties are required.  EXL 0500 has very high flame-retardant properties while still providing good processibility and good physical properties.
